About
Who am I?
Although this could be a deep philosophical question, for the purposes of this page, I am a twenty-something architectural intern living in NE Ohio who knits a bit too much, reads not enough, and watches entirely too much television. I am very (very) slowly working my way towards taking the Architectural Registration Exam. This is rather a chore, as I have discovered that I really hate to study. Why I didn’t notice this in school, I’m not sure, although I suspect that it has something to do with the facts that a) I’m always more focused with a deadline (there’s no set time frame for taking the ARE) and b) I wasn’t knitting at the time.
I am an inveterate list-maker, with lists for my knitting to-dos (long), reading (longer), and the ever-constant, things I don’t really want to do but have to do anyway (infinite). I have even been known to make lists summarizing my lists.
Knitting is currently my primary hobby, although reading is creeping back into the picture. I also know how to crochet, tat, cross-stitch, and embroider, and have been known to do a little (very little) sewing. I knit in the Continental style, although I learned English (or a similar variation) initially; I find Continental to be easier on my shoulders and quicker when switching back and forth constantly between purl and knit as with a ribbing or moss stitch. I seem to knit very loosely—anecdotally, this seems not uncommon among Continental knitters—so I almost always drop two or more needle sizes. This can make gauge a challenge.
Mostly, I knit lace. I do like sweaters as well, although I can only seem to finish one a year. I don’t mind seaming. I haven’t yet really gotten into sock knitting. I do like wearing handknit socks, but that whole bit about making a second sock isn’t really something I’m overjoyed with. I like my knitting to be interesting, often complex, as I get bored easily. Two identical socks doesn’t really cut it. Of course, the fact that I usually have to knit socks on 00’s or 000’s to get gauge doesn’t really endear them to me either.
